Tell us about yourself!
I teach 6th grade science and 6th and 7th grade STEM. I have been teaching for the last 27 years in Texas, China and here in Las Vegas. During that time I have taught science to students from 6th grade to 12th. While in China I taught spoken English at a College. I most enjoy the interaction with students and watching them figure things out as they try different activities. That lack of interaction was the hardest part of the last year during distance learning. In my free time, which is limited as I have 2 daughters who I love spending time with, I enjoy volunteering and working with the local food bank in Las Vegas, Three Square.
Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?
Reilly Smith- while he is an amazing player, he is a more amazing teammate. He isn’t flashy but is alway in the right spot and works hard no matter the situation.
What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?
I like how the program ties real world situations to the topics that we cover in classes. The prepping the ice activity ties so well with my lessons on phase changes and the students think they are very interesting. Hockey and STEM are all about problem solving and teamwork. By planning your attack and working together obstacles can be overcome.
If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?
Defense – while it might not be the glory position that Forward is, it’s the backbone of the team. They work to keep the team out of trouble but also open the offense by looking for breakout plays in transition.
