Tell us about yourself!

I have been teaching for 16 years. I have taught 1st grade, 2nd grade, 5th grade, and 4th grade. I currently teach 4th grade. Both of my parents were teachers and I loved watching the impact that they had on their students’ lives. There is no greater joy than watching a student grasp a concept that they have been struggling with. I love completing STEM activities with my students to increase their understanding of our standards. I also lead the SeaPerch club at our school where I help students build underwater ROVs to compete.

What is your favorite part of the Future Goals™program? How do you see STEM in the game of hockey?

I love that Future Goals shows students real-world applications of both science and math concepts. I see STEM everywhere in hockey. From designing a better stick to help with a player’s shot to developing better systems to keep the ice at the correct temperature.

Who is your favorite NHL® player and why?

My favorite player is Braden Holtby. I am a Capitals fan so I started watching him then. I love how involved he is with the community especially with the Pride Festival in DC. I love that he continues to support the LGBTQ+ community. Showing that hockey is for everyone and that everyone is welcome.

If you played hockey, what position would you play and why?

My son is a defensemen. This is the position that I would want to play because they assist the team in so many ways. They are the backbone of the team.
