Why did you decide to become a teacher?
To share my love of education and athletics with others. After I retired from professional hockey after playing six years in multiple countries, I knew the I loved “coaching” and “teaching” others. I took my passion of excelling in a sport to excelling in another professional career, education.
What has been your most memorable moment as a teacher?
My most memorable event is not a singular moment, but it is the moments that culminate over the small time you have with the students. Teaching is the most rewarding career, as you not only get to teach them the core subjects, but I get to teach them life lessons. Most of which, I have learned through sport and also learn from the students themselves.
What is your favorite part of Future Goals and how are you using it in your classroom?
In our classroom, we love the opportunity to give extensions for the students that give them authentic learning experiences that connect us beyond our classroom walls. Our favorite part our the Future Goals program is the ability think of Math and Science in a fashion that everyone loves, HOCKEY!
What was your student’s reaction to the program?
The students love STEM challenges in our room. The students find these interesting and exciting, even for those who do not excel in these type of challenges! It also gives them a different perceptive on sport, even if they are not involved in them directly.
Who is your favorite hockey player?
My favorite hockey player on the Winnipeg Jets is Kyle Connor.
